A group of academics released an open letter calling the adoption of principles to ensure independence from corporate influence in research on gig economy, human cloud firms, Vice reported. The letter comes after a controversial study by Cornell University researchers that suggested Seattle drivers did not need a minimum wage law because they were making $23 per hour after expenses; the study was commissioned by Uber and Lyft. However, another study found drivers earned just $9.73 per hour after expenses.
