A Seattle law that requires premium wages be paid food delivery workers who are classified as independent contractors is being challenged in court by Instacart and the Washington Food Industry Association, Bloomberg reported. The suit argues the law threatens Instacart’s viability in Seattle; the suit was filed June 26. The law is effective throughout the Covid-19 crisis and doesn’t have an end date. The Seattle Attorney’s Office told Bloomberg it plans to investigate and respond to Instacart’s and the association’s claims.
