New York State could become the next legislative battleground over the independent contractor status that is given some workers by human cloud/on-demand staffing platforms, Bloomberg Law reported. Some lawmakers in the Empire State are taking a look at independent contractors classifications after the passage of the AB 5 law in California and its tougher test to determine independent contractor misclassification. The possibility of a new type of worker category has also been discussed in New York.
